Overview

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is among the top universities in Malaysia, which is active in research, especially in science and engineering areas. We have some 2,000 researchers, including postgraduates, and an annual research income of about RM80 million. The variety of research activities extends across all faculties and departments, often crossing traditional subject boundaries. Interdisciplinary research is promoted through our faculties, research centres and institutes. The University’s research spans over eleven Research Alliances which form the core of our research strengths.

Faculty-based research groups and centres are the main contributors to our research strengths. The overall management of research is carried out by the Research Management Centre (RMC), which also maintains a Directory of Researchers and List of R&D Products.

The success of the University’s research is underpinned by research grants from the Malaysian Government, industry and international agencies as well as our network of collaborative partnerships. Businesses ranging from small local companies to major multi-national companies, benefit from collaboration with our researchers. We were the first university in the country to create a technology transfer company, called Unitechnologies.
