Seminar 1:
Overview of IP-over-CWDM Network Technologies for Regional/ Local Access Application
Abstract
An overview is given for IP-over-CWDM (Coarse Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) network technologies investigated so as to satisfy the rapidly increasing Internet demands. The networks have been investigated to be applicable to regional/local access broadband communications, including government networks, research organization networks, campus/factory networks, and large-scale LANs. In the seminar, technical background is described briefly such that basic ideas can be shared, and then some topics are explained, based on the recent results obtained by the Multimedia Network Research Group in OPU.
- Design and Control System for Regional CWDM Optical IP Networks with Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer
- Lightpath Reconfiguration in Regional IP-over-WDM Networks by a Centralized Control System
- Proposal of Bi-Directional ROADM for Use in Regional IP-over-CWDM Networks
- Static & OSPF Routing Integration Scheme for Lightpath Reconfigurations in IP-over-CWDM Networks
- Lightpath Reconfigurations in IP-over-CWDM Networks with Stackable ROADMs
- Lightpath Management System for IP-over-CWDM Networks with ROADMs

Seminar 2:
Topics on Optical Devices for Broadband & Wavelength Routing Networks
Abstract
Recent topics are explained, followed by the first seminar. A brief summary on the background and basic knowledge is described mainly for understanding WDM technologies, which are important and essential for broadband and wavelength routing networks. The talk focuses on the recent results on compact packaging techniques for optical components based on a novel fiber jacket removing system by a CO2 laser proposed by the presenter. This hot technique is expected and investigated extensively so as to reduce the size of the ROADMs dramatically. A performance measurement system is also explained to give an idea how the optical devices and the optical networks are evaluated, and how the measured data are stored systematically such that the results can be shared among researchers and engineers in a joint group of the companies and OPU in east area of Osaka. This joint group was organized in 2005 by joining both academia and industries in Osaka to promote the development of advanced optical components and devices to be used for the broadband networks in the coming ubiquitous society. |
