Sports |
|
|
The university has a sports complex that comes complete with squash courts, badminton courts and indoor games hall. Apart from this, UTM also provides football fields and facilities for tennis, sepaktakraw, basketball, volleyball, rugby, football, hockey, equine and water-sports. The majority of the courts are located in the vicinity of the residential colleges.
The Tropical Gardens which is located next to the recreational lake has become the home to a variety of tropical flora and fauna. The green and serene surrounding of the Tropical Gardens is a popular relaxing place for students.
The university has just opened its own out-door recreation centre in the campus where students could jungle trek in the natural beauty of tropical forest, palm and rubber plantation. There are many natural streams and camping sites for those who are more adventurous.
Another leisure place is the Observatory Centre, which is located at the highest point in the campus known as Bukit Cerap. Apart from its intended purpose as an observatory, the place is also a popular spot for relaxing and enjoying the fresh air. Students normally jog or walk to the top of the hill to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the whole campus and its surrounding area.

Eating Places and Convenient Stores |
|
|
There are approximately 50 catering outlets across the campus, including air-conditioned restaurants, cafeterias, fast-food restaurants, sidewalk cafes and open air hawker-styled cafes (night time only) selling a whole variety of food including traditional Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western cuisines. There are many shops on campus including bookstores, photocopy centres, mobile phone centres, news agents, launderettes, hair dressing and beauty saloons, computer shops, travel agencies and more than 20 mini grocery stores, mostly within the students' residential colleges.
There is a Kedai Universiti (The University Shop), managed by Uni-Technologies Sdn Bhd., a business arm of the University. It offers a wide range of high quality goods including stationery, paintings, batik, ceramic and clothing items, some of them imprinted with the University's logo. It is located on the ground floor of the administration building.

Banks and Post Office |
|
|
There is a full-fledged branch of the Bumiputra-Commerce Bank (BCB) on campus and a service centre of the Bank Muamalat with seven ATMs (including those operated by other banks) all around campus. There is a post office branch located at the Students' Union Building that provides full services for students and staff.

Nursery, Kindergarten and Religious Instruction School |
|
|
To cater for the social and educational needs of the children of staff and students, and where space and facilities permit the general public, the University has built the above-mentioned amenities.

Hadanah Nursery |
|
|
This nursery and day-care centre is for children from the age of 5 and below. It is situated close to the tennis court of the Tuanku Chancellor residential college and is opened to all, with priority given to children of staff and students.

|
Ihsan Kindergarten |
|
|
This kindergarten is situated next to the Nursery and is opened to children of staff and students between the ages of 5 and 6. It may also admit children from the nearby housing areas if there are vacancies.

|
Religious Instruction School |
|
|
This school is similar to any Islamic religious instruction school run by the state's Religious Affairs Department Adhering to the same syllabus set by the department. The school is opened to Muslim children of staff, students and the general public. Pupils receive the compulsory 6 years of religious instruction with an optional 1-year extension. Certificates are awarded at the end of the 6th and 7 th year.
All the above facilities are under the management of the Sultan Ismail Mosque. For registration and details please contact the supervisor/ principal of the respective facility.

Religious Provision |
|
|
Malaysia is a multiethnic, multicultural and multireligion country. Although Islam is the official religion of the country, students at UTM come from a variety of ethnic and religious background. The University tries to make provision for everyone to observe their religious practices by allowing religion-based students societies to carry out activities for their members. There are the Islamic Students Society, Buddhist Students Society, Christian Students Society and Hindu Students Society registered with the Students Affairs Office.

Masjid Sultan Ismail |
|
|
The construction of the Sultan Ismail Mosque began in 1986 and was completed in 1990. The mosque can accommodate about 10,000 worshippers and has many facilities such as mini-library, seminar rooms, lecture hall, morgue and offices. The planning of the Skudai campus was based on the concept of centralising the main activities of common interests around the mosque. The mosque is located right at the centre of the campus surrounded by other buildings within walking distance, and is the most outstanding building of the university.
Its location at the centre of the campus is in line with the concept of Islamic learning in which the mosque is the source of the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge and in life as well with the university motto, "For God and Mankind".

Transport Services |
|
|
The University also provides transport services for students to commute from their on-campus residential colleges or off-campus accommodation to classes. There are more than 30 buses that provide services from 7.15 am to 11.30 pm everyday. The off-campus residential areas covered by the service include Taman Universiti, Taman Sri Skudai, Taman Sri Pulai, Taman Teratai, Taman Desa Skudai and Taman Sri Putri. In addition, there are also public buses such as the Transit Link and Maju bus companies, which ply between Taman Universiti via the ring road of the campus to Johor Bahru City Centre.
