Overview
This program is designed for candidates who wish to obtain knowledge of applying Information Technology (IT) in Management context. It is open to applicants with a good Bachelor’s degree (with Honors) in Information Technology or from other disciplines other than the IT domain but within any of the mentioned contexts. However, all applicants must have some IT working experience. Candidates from a non-IT background must complete a maximum of four pre-requisite subjects upon enrolment in the program. They must pass these pre-requisite subjects before registering for the subsequent core subjects.
Objectives
1. To produce graduates who are able to apply advanced ICT knowledge and skills in solving real world problems across different organizational contexts
2. To produce graduates who are able to plan, analyze, design, implement, evaluate, maintain and manage enterprise ICT solutions
3. To produce graduates who are able to manage Information & Communications technology, information and knowledge as critical organizational assets
4. (iv) To produce graduates who are able to be an active participant in ICT based organizational transformation ventures
5. To produce graduates who are able to communicate effectively across different organizational contexts and multiple stakeholders
6. To produce graduates who are able to consistently perform their responsibilities ethically and professionally.
Type of Program
The Mainstream Program (Program Perdana) is a postgraduate program that is usually conducted at the UTM Skudai campus which offers the above mentioned types of registered study.
Mode of Study
Mode of study is a combination of taught course and research. The research component is carried out after the student has completed all the taught courses required.
Locations and Language
This program will be conducted at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Systems (FSKSM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johor, and UTM City Campus with English Language as the preferred medium of communication.
Entry Requirement
1. CPA >= 3.0 for Bachelor’s degree in the area of Information Technology or Computer Science or
2. CPA >= 3.0 for Bachelor’s degree from an area outside the IT domain but within management context combined with some IT experience
(non IT background must complete a maximum of four pre-requisite subjects upon enrolment in the program).
3. CPA >= 3.0 for Bachelor’s degree in the area of Information Technology or Computer Science with several years of IT related experience
Candidates are expected to have taken management fundamentals, programming, systems development and information system & information technology or similar subjects, failing which, they have to take MCM 0503 Management Fundamentals, MCP 0003 Computing Fundamentals, MCM 0213 System Development, and MCM 0133 Information System & Information Technology, respectively.
International Student Entry
International applicants to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia must satisfy the academic admission and English language proficiency requirement (IELTS band 6 or TEOFL score of 550) and any other specified conditions. Students who do not fulfill English Language proficiency will be required to take an English examination upon registration, failing which, they have to register for English modules offered at the university.
Course Structure
Candidates from a non-IT background must complete a maximum of four prerequisite subjects upon enrolment in the program. Student must pass the pre-requisite subjects before registering for the associated core subject. All students are also required to take the University Common Elective (3credits), Core Subjects (12 credits), Elective Subjects (6 credits) and a Master’s Dissertation (21 credits). The total number of credits required for the award of a degree is 42 credits.
Exit Points
Students may graduate after successfully completing a minimum of 32 credits, and must obtain a final academic grade of at least 3.0 CGPA within a minimum study duration of 4 semesters (2 years) to a maximum duration of 10 semesters (5 years).

RM 3,526 per semester (1st semesters) plus RM1,500 (bond)

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the program can work as an Information Systems Manager, Information Technology Manager, IS/IT Consultant, IS/IT Planner, Information Systems Analyst, or Information Systems Engineer.
