Master of Software Engineering
Overview

This program is designed to produce professional and dedicated software engineers who will develop, manage and maintain software projects based on international standards, thus to support national vision to produce charismatic software engineers. This program will also expose the candidates to the real world and hands on environment based on local software industries.

Objectives

1. To produce graduates who can understand software engineering principles and practices which comply to international standards in solving real world application problems.

2. To produce graduates who are able to plan, analyze, design, implementation, test and review software projects.

3. To produce graduates who can manage and assure the quality of software projects.

4. To produce graduates who are able to communicate effectively in a teamwork and with stakeholders.

5. To produce graduates who can work independently and conduct lifelong learning and adapt readily to changing situations.

6. To produce graduates who manage to demonstrate consistent professional ethics with high integrity.

Mode of Study

This program is a taught course program which includes minor research conducted at the local software industries in the form of Industrial Training.

Locations and Language

This program will be conducted at the Centre for Advanced Software Engineering (CASE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia International Campus, Kuala Lumpur. English language is will be the main medium used during teaching & learning activities.

Entry Requirement

Academic Qualification :

i. Bachelor degree in (Maths & Science based) i.e BSc, B.Eng etc

ii. UTM Undergraduates with CGPA >= 3.0 or others (accredited by LAN) CGPA >= 3.0

iii. For CGPA less than 3.0 :
   - B.Sc holder in IT related field
   - Full-filled pre-requisite subjects
   - Relevant working experience in IT field

iv. Transferred credit (based on UTM transferred credit regulation)

International Student English Requirement:

i. Upon being accepted into the program, all international candidates are required to produce their English Qualification in the form of IELTS or TOEFL :
   - TOELF : min 550
   - IELTS : min 6.0

ii. Candidates who does not achieve the minimum English Qualification will be asked to sit for UTM Intensive English Program for 1 – 2 semesters.

iii. Candidates who do not produce their English Qualification on the day of the registration, will not be allowed to register as UTM students.

Course Structure

a. Candidates from a non-IT background must complete a number of prerequisite subjects

b. All students are also required to take 42 credits :

i. 1 University Common Elective - 03 credits
ii. 5 Core Subjects - 15 credits
iii. 1 Elective Subjects - 03 credits
iv. Master’s Dissertation - 21 credits
** including Industrial Attachment

Award Requirements

Master Award, students should :

i. Achieve a total of 42 credit hours with minimum CPA of 3.0.
ii. Complete the dissertation/technical writing project at final semester.

Post-Degree Diploma, students who :

i. Pass all the subjects required as offered in the academic year excluding the dissertation / industrial attachment
ii. Does not achieve minimum standard for the final dissertation report
iii. Apply for conferment of Post-Degree Diploma
