Overview

This program is designed for candidates who wish to obtain knowledge, skills and expertise in Information System theories and able to apply them to analyze and solve organizational problems. Program will train graduate to produce creative ideas and critical thinking to advance knowledge and share them with other researchers, academicians and industry.

Objectives

1. To produce experts in computer software development industry who possesed the knowledge and understanding in advanced Software Engineering which are required to solve the industry related problems effectively.

2. To produce software experts who grasp the latest knowledge and comprehension in Software Engineering who would be able to contribute towards nurturing latest innovation and know-how in the industry.

3. To produce software experts who are able to push the boundary of Software Engineering through novelty research, innovation and scholarly writing.

4. To demonstrate the idea or critical and creative thinking in advancing the Software Engineering body of knowledge together with top notch researchers in industry and universities.

5. To produce graduates who are able to communicate technically and effectively across a range of contexts and audiences.

6. To produce graduates who are able to independently conduct lifelong learning and adapt readily to changing situations.

7. To produce graduates who are able to demonstrate consistent professional ethics and high integrity.

Type of Program

There are two types of programs: Mainstream Program (Program Perdana) and Part-Time Program. These programs are usually conducted at UTM Skudai campus.

Mode of Study

The program is a research program supported by a guided component to help students obtain a good grounding before embarking on their research.

Locations and Language

This program will be conducted at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Systems (FSKSM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johor, with English Language as the preferred medium of communication.

Entry Requirement

Entry Requirements for Candidates With Bachelor Degree

(1) Candidates from Bachelor in IT, SE, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related with First Class or CGPA == 3.50 and IT related working experience.

(2) Candidates from non-SE Bachelor – Engineering & Sciences ONLY – with First Class or CGPA == 3.50 and IT related working experience

Entry Requirements for Candidates With Masters Degree

(3) Candidates from MSE with IT related working experience

(4) Candidates from IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related with IT related working experience

(5) Candidates from non-SE – Engineering & Sciences ONLY with IT related working experience

International Student Entry

International applicants to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia must satisfy the academic admission and English language proficiency requirement (IELTS band 6 or TEOFL score of 550) and any other specified conditions. Students who do not fulfill English Language proficiency will be required to take an English examination upon registration, failing which, they have to register for English modules offered at the university.

Exit Points

Students may graduate after having successfully completeng the 21 credit coursework, a PhD level dissertation and the PhD viva. Students whose dissertation is evaluated as not meeting the required PhD level will be awarded MRes (Information Systems).

Malaysian Students

Full Time Study :
RM 1,746 per semester (1st semester)
RM1,396 per semester (subsequent semesters)

Part Time Study :
RM1,346 per semester (1st semester)
RM996 per semester (subsequent semesters)

International Students

Full Time Study :
RM 3,506 per semester (1st semesters) plus RM1,500 (bond)
RM3,156 per semester (subsequent semesters)

All payment should be made to “Bendahari UTM” via bank draft and addressed directly to School of Graduate Studies, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, 81310 UTM Skudai, Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Takzim, MALAYSIA.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program can work as an Information Systems Manager, Information Technology Manager, IS/IT Consultant, IS/IT Planner, Information Systems Analyst, or Information Systems Engineer.
