Overview

This program is designed for candidates who wish to obtain knowledge, skills and expertise in Information System theories and able to apply them to analyze and solve organizational problems. Program will train graduate to produce creative ideas and critical thinking to advance knowledge and share them with other researchers, academicians and industry.

Objectives

1. To produce graduates who are experts in Information System.

2. To produce graduates who are able to use and apply Information System theories and approaches for analyzing and solving real organization problem

3. To produce graduates who are able to demonstrate the critical and creative ideas in order to expand and sharing the knowledge in the are of Information System with the other researcher, university and industries.

4. To produce graduates who are able to communicate technically and effectively across a range of context and audiences.

5. To produce graduates who are able to independently conduct lifelong learning and adapt readily to changing situation.

6. To produce graduates who are able to demonstrate consistent professional ethics and high integrity.

Type of Program

There are two types of programs: Mainstream Program (Program Perdana) and Part-Time Program. These programs are usually conducted at UTM Skudai campus.

Mode of Study

The program is a research program supported by a guided component to help students obtain a good grounding before embarking on their research.

Locations and Language

This program will be conducted at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Systems (FSKSM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johor, with English Language as the preferred medium of communication.

Entry Requirement

(1) CPA >= 3.0 for Master’s degree in the area of Information Technology or Computer Science or Computer Engineering or

(2) CPA >= 3.0 for Master’s degree from an area outside the IT domain but within management context combined with some IT experience
(student with non IT background may have to complete a maximum of four pre-requisite subjects upon enrolment in the program),
AND

(3) Work experience of 3 years to ensure student has sufficient exposure in an organizational environment.

International Student Entry

International applicants to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia must satisfy the academic admission and English language proficiency requirement (IELTS band 6 or TEOFL score of 550) and any other specified conditions. Students who do not fulfill English Language proficiency will be required to take an English examination upon registration, failing which, they have to register for English modules offered at the university.

Course Structure

All students are required to take 14 credits of IS research core courses, 4 credits of IS electives, 3 credits of university compulsory subjects and complete an Information System research.

Exit Points

Students may graduate after having successfully completeng the 21 credit coursework, a PhD level dissertation and the PhD viva. Students whose dissertation is evaluated as not meeting the required PhD level will be awarded MRes (Information Systems).

Malaysian Students

Full Time Study :
RM 1,746 per semester (1st semester)
RM1,396 per semester (subsequent semesters)

Part Time Study :
RM1,346 per semester (1st semester)
RM996 per semester (subsequent semesters)

International Students

Full Time Study :
RM 3,506 per semester (1st semesters) plus RM1,500 (bond)
RM3,156 per semester (subsequent semesters)

All payment should be made to “Bendahari UTM” via bank draft and addressed directly to School of Graduate Studies, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, 81310 UTM Skudai, Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Takzim, MALAYSIA.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program can work as an Information Systems Manager, Information Technology Manager, IS/IT Consultant, IS/IT Planner, Information Systems Analyst, or Information Systems Engineer.
