Over the years, the department has grown and devloped along with the field.  Focusing on the public helath issues in the 70s, the department has since evolved adapting to the changing needs of the world.

Presently, the department consists of 4 professors, 7 associate professors and 13 senior lecturers and lecturers.  The strength of the department is shown through the vast background of the members in order to fulfill the integrated need of the field.  These include civil and environmental engineering, chemical engineering, microbiology, chemistry, marine biology, ecology, urban planning and even surveying. 

The members of the department are actively involved in various research in the field of environmental engineering and management and hold a good number of publications in the field. Besides, some of the department members have garnered prestigeous award at national and international level.
