Apart from teaching and research as core businesses of the Faculty, the academic staff are also heavily involved in consultancy work. The Faculty has been providing multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy services since the late 80s. Before the establishment of the Specialist Consultantcy Group in 1998, most of the consultancy jobs in the Faculty were monitored by the Bureau of Consultancy and Innovation, UTM.
However, with the establishment of the Specialist Consultancy Group in 1998, all consultancy jobs have been monitored by the Faculty. Numerous consultancy jobs have been carried out throughout the last decade as shown below. The Faculty through various consultancy groups and personnel provides a broad range of services which principally include
- Innovation and design
- Independent testing services
- Instrumentation and development
- Specialist investigation
- Product development
- Site investigation
- Manpower training
With extensive experience in the fields stated above, the Faculty has provided invaluable services to the nation.
The Faculty has secured 21 consultancy projects with a value of more than RM 4 million in 2010. The projects included government sponsored projects and the other half from private sectors.
