Laboratory

The Department of Hydraulics and Hydrology has its own laboratory building comprising, a total working area of 2972 square feet. This laboratory area accommodates ample experimental space for teaching and research and adequate support facilities.

The laboratory is equipped with recent technology teaching apparatus, research equipment, testing apparatus, computers, several modeling software and transport vehicles, including two road transport vehicles and boats. The laboratory, which is also used by the coastal engineering research groups, is equipped with the following facilities:

18m x 0.7m x 0.9 m wave flume complete with a piston-type wave generator, wave absorber, and adjustable carriageway |

20m x 5.3m x 1m wave basin complete with a random-type computer-controlled wave generator |

1 set of TSI’s Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system complete with Interrogation software, for non-intrusive flow measurement |

1 set of wave measurement system comprising of 9 nos. of wave probes, data acquisition system and processing software |

2 nos. of Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters (ADV) for point velocity measurements |

Field equipment for oceanographic data measurement – current meters, water level recorders, wave height meters, grab samplers, water samplers, GPS and communication systems. |
